Daily Surrender - No Regrets

This I pray, Higher Power: I will surrender to Your will today, which brings me peace and joy that makes all things new.

I no longer have that trampled look of someone forced to remember every mistake he or she has made.

I no longer hide under that blanket of regrets.

My daily surrender to You and the Fellowship that surrounds me leads me away from darkness and into the wonderful light of Your wisdom.

Tempests Within

Even today, human beings have no control over storms at sea, and sometimes very little control over storms in the heart.

Only God has the power to still the tempest without and tempests within.

God Needs People

As God needed Abraham, Isaac, David, and the rest, so God needs me, if only to witness his love and mercy, as I have received it -- in rich abundance.
So it makes eminent good sense for me to freely make a generous gift of myself to God for him to use me as he wills.
What nobler path could I tread through life.
And so, with Saint Ignatius' inspired words, I give myself over to God for him to use me as he wills,
Take Lord and receive all my liberty,
My memory, my understanding and my entire will.
All I have and call my own.
Whatever I have or hold, you have given me.
I return it all to you and surrender it wholly
To be governed by your will.
Give me only your love and grace
And I am rich enough and ask for nothing more.
--Monsignor James Turro
Loving Father, you always work through your people.
Deepen my belonging, and let all
my relationships testify to your love.

Surrender

Today I will surrender to that which I cannot control.
Surrender does not mean giving up when I need to be persistent;
it means letting go of that which I can't change.

Surrender doesn't mean I stop trying;
it means I try, and then I surrender to the outcome.

I will let go of constantly thinking about and analyzing the situation, and
I will surrender to whatever happens, no matter how long it takes.

Self-Interest

Self-interest is but the survival of the animal in us.
Humanity only begins for man with self-surrender.
-- Henri Amiel

When I surrender, I am no longer captives within my skins.
I am actually restored to a more natural state as people in community with others, who literally cannot survive as isolated individuals.
I must be a part of the give and take within the group, just as it has been for human beings since the beginning of time.

Today, I surrender my self-interest again, knowing I must do it over and over.

What Is Defeat?

What is defeat?. . . Nothing but the first step to something better.
--Wendell Phillips

Admitting defeat is my first step into a beautiful world.
Like all first steps, it's hard.
But what a world I found myself in!
A world where I count!
A world where all are really equal!

This first step brings me into God's world of care.
I get love.
I give love.
I stay sober because daily I admit defeat.

Elder's Meditation -- Doubt and Control

There are many things that block us from wisdom such as selfishness, secrets, hate, anger, jealousy and judgments.
Another thing that can block us from wisdom is trying too hard or wishing something would happen.
Wishing implies doubt and trying implies control.
We need to let go of these things.
We need to abandon ourselves to the Creator.
As soon as we surrender everything, the wisdom starts to flow.
The Elders know how to help us with this.
Just ask them.

My Great Spirit, today I surrender my life and my will to Your care.

Surrender

We surrender to win;

we give away to keep;

we suffer to get well;

we die to live.
