Pride is the greatest weakness
People like to think they are strong characters who can take care of their own destinies. That is always fictitious thinking. Everybody in this world is some kind of weakling, and if he thinks he is not, then pride is his weakness, and that is the greatest weakness of all.

Pocket Your Pride
The biggest question I get asked today is:
"How does this deal work?"
And the answer is simple:
"Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path."
So, to the newcomer:
pocket your pride, get a sponsor, and learn how to follow this path.
And to the oldtimers:
pocket your pride, pick up newcomers, take them to meetings, and continue to share what was freely given to you.
That is how this deal worked in the beginning, and that's how it works today -- one alcoholic helping another stay sober.

Guilt
Guilt is really the reverse side of the coin of pride.
~~~@@~~~@@~~~
Guilt is in the past;
worry is the future.
Both are manifestations of ego.
The Mystery of God
Familiarity can breed illusion.
Let me not imagine I can plumb or manage the mystery of my Creator, even by prayer and penance.
There are depths to God I cannot fathom but in which I put my trust.
Let me not imagine I can plumb or manage the mystery of my Creator, even by prayer and penance.
There are depths to God I cannot fathom but in which I put my trust.
In humility I pray:
Creator, I seek your face!
Against the presumption that
can come with knowledge:
-- protect me, O Lord!
Against the pride that
can destroy prayer:
-- protect me, O Lord!
Against the temptation to
take you for granted:
-- protect me, O Lord!
Deliver me from pride of spirit and
grant me the humility that
always seeks you. Amen.
Pride And Humility
The difference between pride and humility:
Pride is who is right;
humility is what is right.
Pride is who is right;
humility is what is right.
Pride
Pride sets subtle snares.
Whenever I imagine that I am in control of life -- my own or someone else's -- I have fallen prey to the ancient whisper in the Garden: "You shall be like gods."
Mortality is the enduring reminder that I become like God not by my own power but by the power of the cross.
